Visiting Loch Ness In Scotland

By Poppy Hill

The North of Scotland attracts a lot of visitors each year mainly tourists flying into Inverness Airport or Aberdeen Airport. Ask anyone who is heading south from the airport to visit the famous Loch Ness what breathtaking beautiful surroundings there is to behold when driving from Inverness to reach the loch.

In Scotland most of the lakes are known as lochs and the big one here which everyone has heard of is Loch Ness or Nessie as it is sometimes referred to. Driving along side the loch is not only quiet and exhilarating but will keep everyone amused with a sense of adventure as they head along the shore towards the exhibition.

Both sides of the lake stretch from the top which is close to Inverness town centre until the end of the loch which is around 30 miles long at Fort Augustus. Driving along the loch from Inverness to Fort Augustus will probably take you around 55 minutes non stop. Who can resist the drive through when there are so many different photo opportunities down by Drummadrochit which is mid-way down the loch.

Anyone who is interested in historic castles can view both Urquhart and Inverness up on the hills surrounded by stunning landscape and awe inspiring views of the Scottish countryside.

The castles will take you back in time to historic Scotland and the murky past of the battles between Scotland and England. The loch has always held a fascination for those who believe that a monster lies underneath the loch and was famously captured on camera during the 20th century.

Heading south towards the last town of Fort Augustus where you can join any one of the cruises which sail over the loch. This may be the end of the journey for some as the loch then flows downstream. Spend an afternoon in this beautiful part of Scotland and you will see how magical this area really is.
