This exclusive town of wealthy summer "cottages" (mansions), is also a very affordable summer tourist destination. Stay in a hotel or inn, or rent a cottage or condo for a relaxing holiday. Boaters will find amply anchorage along the coast, and ample docking space at the local yacht club. Located between Boston and New York City, it's a perfect spot for a day trip to the seashore.

Napatree Point Conservation area is a 1 1/2 mile long peninsula where the Atlantic Ocean and Long Island Sound come together. This official conservation area protecting endangered species is a major migratory route for several species of birds. Part of the shore is closed in the spring so Piping Plover bird nests are not disturbed. Napatree is popular with boaters, anglers, water skiers, knee boarders, hikers, joggers, and bird watchers. Walk through the dunes on foot paths for views of the village, ocean, mansions along the coastline, and Fishers Island, New York. Fishing and swimming can be enjoyed from the shore.

There's no amenities or lifeguards, but there's plenty of open space for relaxing, sunbathing, swimming, and surfing, at East Beach on the Atlantic Ocean. Follow the public right of way starting at Bluff Road. Portions on either side of the road are private but there's plenty of public access along this shoreline that passes the old lighthouse and Ocean House Hotel.

The Flying Horse Carousel is the 2nd oldest carousel in the United States. The 20 horses are suspended on chains from the center frame so they swing out or "fly". From the carousel take a left and walk up the hill. Carousel Beach, at the end of Bay Street, is favored by families with small children. It offers lockers, showers, and a lifeguard.

The 7 miles of coastline between Watch Hill and Westerly is the Misquamicut shoreline. Visitors will find plenty of seaside open to fishing, swimming, surfing and boating. Many shops along the route offer jet ski, kayak, and paddle board rentals. There's also surfing gear for sale and opportunities to learn surfing skills. About half way there, stop and enjoy the state run swimming area with its picnic areas, separate swimming and surfing areas, concession stands, lifeguards, plenty of shade, and plenty of parking.

Families may want to take a drive along the Misquamicut shoreline towards Westerly. Stop at Bayview Fun Park, a water park with water slides and a recreation area with miniature golf, batting cages, and go-karts. Next door is Atlantic Beach Park, a children's amusement park with an antique carousel, kiddie roller coaster, and ferris wheel. Walk to the public seashore to swim in the surf.

There's plenty of shoreline in walking distance of town. In addition to water sports and sunbathing, there's excellent boat or surf fishing off the waters of Watch Hill Beach RI. During the summer there's ample dock facilities for yachts as well as fishing boats and sail boats. Tourists can stay in town at a hotel or inn, or rent a cottage or condo.
