Planning, Preparing, And Making The Move

By Joseph Tranturder

Moving into a new home is a unique experience for most families as moving into a new home can often be both simultaneously exciting and overly stressful at the same time. But moving into a new home for the first time, or moving as a family for the first time, or even simply experiencing the process of a move for the first time can be more than exciting or stressful; it can likewise be confusing and difficult.

Understandably so, the home of an elderly couple or individual is a difficult piece of property to let go of for these people. The home they are leaving behind has been the foundation of their lives for years, the place they have felt the most comfortable through trails, and houses memories upon memories of growing old together and all the wonderful remembrances that time and their home has given them.

All of these sentimental values are found within the home of an elderly person or couple, and keeping this fact in mind is the first step that a loved one can take while helping their elderly family members move homes. Moving at any stage in life can one of the greatest stressors of life, but doing so when a person has grown old in the home they are moving from can be especially difficult.

If you are helping an elderly loved one, like a grandparent or parent, move from their longstanding home, strive to always remember how difficult this move may be for the elder person or couple. By keeping their feelings and emotions in mind during the course of the move, a family member who is helping the elderly move homes can do so with more compassion and will thereby be of greater support and assistance to their loved ones.

With the home clean, the family moving for the first time can decide if they will perform the move by themselves or with the aid of a professional moving company in Utah. Moving companies in Utah can be a great asset to those who are moving for the first time as their experience and resources will allow for nearly all of the stress and labor of moving to be eliminated for the family who is moving.

Once the proverbial fat has been trimmed from the possessions within a home, the family or individual can begin to pack those items that they wish to have at their new residence. Again, working from room to room will help break up the process into workable assignments instead of one giant seemly unattainable task.

No matter the decision, a family who is moving for the first time can have better success and an easier transition while moving if they will do some of the organizing of the items to be moved themselves.

If the move is especially difficult for an elderly person or couple, one may wish to help them further by taking pictures of their old home and setting up their possessions in a similar placement in their new home. Taking the time to make their new home appear as close to identical as their old home will do wonders as the elderly couple or person will be able to feel more comfortable and adjust to their new home faster if it resembles what they have grown used to in their old home.
