Before The History Of Professional Wrestling

By Imelda Reid

It is human nature to aspire for something more than what one has. Even if each one has a different set of gifts, there is still this stain of discontentment which settles in the depth of human complexity. That is why no matter what status one is in, there is always an aspiration for something which one does not have, and this fact is very evident in this world where humans live.

Speaking of this, there are so many areas in which men would like to put themselves in. There are those who would like to the most beautiful, the most popular, the most influential, or the richest. But among these things, you will find one common aspiration, and that is power. This is what you will see in competitive sports like wrestling if you get to know of the history of professional wrestling.

Basically, wrestling is a physical combat which people from before used as a defense to physical assaults. But now, it has turned into a professional sport which showcases who is more superior between the two players in terms of strength and ability. That is why given this concept, the contenders are focused on defeating their opponent.

That is why if you watch this kind of sport on the stage, you have to be a person who loves to see other people get hurt because if you are soft hearted, you will surely faint. This kind of sport is actually brutal and very violent. Just imagine yourself burning with rage while quarreling with your enemy and you do whatever violent thing you want to do with your enemy.

The same thing happens on the stage where wrestlers play. But thank goodness that even if the battle is brutal, it does not involve any use of weapon. It is entirely a physical combat. The wrestlers have to beat each other with just the use of their bare hands and other body parts. So it is entirely like the Beowulf style. They are only left with their strength and strategy to win the fight.

It is actually just a portrayal of how normal people fight. But you can say, that the move applied by the players is in the level of intense hatred. You will see them using all sorts of grappling techniques such as pinning, clinching, throwing, take downs, and other kinds of holds and styles which they can use to take down their opponent.

There is a wide range of styles with different rules. Every style has its own origin which were taken from both historic and modern influences. With this, its style has been incorporated into some martial arts and military hand to hand fighting style. So to speak, this sport is one of the oldest forms of combat. From the way it is done, you will see that it is the most intuitive action of human defense.

You can attest to this due to the references it has in literature. One proven existence of this endeavor in the early years is the Iliad where Homer recounted the happenings in the Trojan War during the twelfth or thirteenth century. Actually, the origin of this endeavor has been known from the cave drawings which have been identified to have dated back fifteen thousand years back.

During that time span, it has continuously developed and spread as well. And in the twentieth century, it has already become a professional sport showcasing two styles which are Greco Roman and freestyle. So from being a mere folk sport, it is now a popular entertainment just like other sports.
