By Deborah Price

For years, tourism has been a major revenue earner for India. Many tourists travel to it to explore the magnificent jungles and hills in its northeastern section. If your visit is on the cards, you might want to read on to know what you stand to get from northeast India tours.

The northeast is marked with a plethora of breathtaking destinations, which in effect makes it hard for the ordinary tourist to choose a specific spot. The abundance of pristine destinations in this region has forced tour operators to classify their packages based on location. Tawang is a region that is highly recommended for those new to India. Before you travel, you should make sure your organizers make advance plans for transportation and accommodation.

Tawang is an administrative district in the Arunachal Pradesh region. Many people reckon it is the most beautiful of all the districts in this jurisdiction. The destination is home to an array of spectacular natural wonders. Most tours focus on exploring the local ancient monasteries, valleys, cultural systems and orchid gardens.

There are two transport options that one may choose. Your tour organizers may fly you straight to Guwahati airport or take you to the area by train. Many investors have taken advantage of the tourism potential that the region has and have put up good hotels in the area. Once you arrive, you might want to check out the Kamakhya Devi Temple. Later, spend the night in one of the local five star hotels.

Most Indian districts are large. Your itinerary for day two should start at Bhalukpong, a 254 kilometer journey from Guwahati. Its diverse plant species are its major selling point. A highly visited local garden houses more than 450 exotic orchids, a first in India. A snow fed waterway called the Kameng snakes through the vast expanse of Bhalukpong.

Another important attraction, Dirang, lies five hours away from Bhalukpong by road. It is home to the Monpa valley, an 8600ft escarpment. When around, explore the Bomdila Monastery as well. It was opened in the year 1965 and is currently used by Buddhist monks and Lamas.

A visit to Tawang town should add more sparkle to your tour. A full day is what you need to explore it. The Tawang Monastery is always the talk of town. It dates back to the 1600s when it was built by Mera Lama Lodre Gyaltso. Today, it houses Buddhist scriptures and more than 500 monks. The Monpa Village and Urgelling Monastery are top sites too.

A memorial to the 1962 Indo China War lies 25 kilometers away. It is dedicated to a fallen soldier whose service during the battle stood out. Historical accounts state that he singlehandedly stood his ground against the advancing Chinese for 72 hours. He did this despite the 10000ft altitude that he was at. In spite of his heroic antics, he fell to enemy gunfire. Nature trails dot the surroundings of the memorial.

With lots of people visiting all year round, you should book your slot early. Also ensure you get travel vaccination beforehand as you will spend a great deal of time in the wild. Your trip will certainly be one to recall.
