Holy Land Vacations: Sites To Visit On Your Trip

By Robert Green

Israel, often called the Holy Land, is a country that has a rich history. Dating back to biblical times, its history is well documented. It has cut itself a niche in the tourist community as a favored travel destination, especially among religious pilgrims. With Christmas in the writing, you might want to take your loved ones for holy land vacations.

Getting to the country should not be a problem. The Israeli government operates a good visa program for tourists from diverse nations. In addition, there are several tour companies that organize visits for people from all over the globe. All you should do is find the right agency to aid in your travel arrangements.

The search for a travel firm should be a walk in the park. Majority of firms have user friendly websites from where one can book a visit with ease. Finding an appropriate package and booking is a process that should take no more than a few minutes. Firms often favor credit card payments.

There are a plethora of places to visit in the country. Your first stop upon landing will depend on the package you pay for. Most tour companies begin by flying their clients directly to Tel Aviv, the capital city of Israel. Upon landing, you are certain to be checked into a hotel for leisure. Later in the day, a meeting with your tour organizers to go over the itinerary for the coming days may take place.

The days following your arrival should see you explore ancient biblical sites. These include the cities of Bethlehem, Haifa, Jaffa, Nazareth, Caesarea, Megiddo, Muhraqa and the Sea of Galilee. These sites bear immense meaning to Jews, Muslims and Christians.

At the height of its fame, Jaffa was a thriving port town. It is legendary due to the fact that Jonah, the biblical figure devoured by a whale, set sail there before his tribulations. Caesarea should follow soon after this.

Once a port, it is an archaeological site today. It was constructed by King Herod during the first century BC. It used to be the capital of Palestine for 600 years. Today, the splendid buildings that Herod built still stand.

Megiddo should be next on your list. Once a fortified town, it holds immense significance to millions of pilgrims. The New Testament in the bible talks of the battle of Armageddon. This is the setting for the described final battle between good and evil. Muhraqa is a site where a biblical confrontation between the prophet Elijah and the prophets of Baal took place. Haifa, located close by, is an ancient city that is older than Nazareth.

Another worthy mention is Nazareth, the recorded site where the conception of Jesus was made known to Mary by the Angel Gabriel. Jerusalem, Jericho and Bethlehem are other crucial sites. They are renowned amongst adherents of Abrahamic religions.

With a good package, your tour should be blissful. To avoid inconveniences, plan your finances early on. You should have enough to cater for other things not provided in your package.
