By Claudine Hodges

It is always fun to spend quality time with your loved ones. It is a popular means of recreation and relaxation. There are many things we can do to while together but among the best ways is to go out and do something unique from time to time.

Among these popular outdoor activities is the bear watching. The business has been flourishing that people living on bear hotspots are already seeing it as a business. The Juneau bear tours is only one of the examples. People who want to take a glimpse of these huge but cute animals will find the area great for this experience.

So if you think you want to give it a try, then better be prepared. Just like any out of town activity the you might have done, this also requires preparation not only because you are going away from home. You need to prepare because unlike other forms of recreation, you are dealing with bears. And everything that involves bears are sensitive. So to ensure that you have a fun and hassle free activity, take time to consider the guide below.

First, wear the proper attire. You do not go to a park or an aquarium. You go to somewhere remote and away from the city so be sure you are wearing the right clothing. As much as possible, avoid those clothing that will make your uncomfortable to move. Bring spare shirts just to be sure. If you are supposed to go to a mountainous area, bring hiking shoes. Do not forget your cap or jacket as well as the weather demands.

Second, place your foods somewhere safe. Do not just leave those snacks unattended on the driver or passenger seat. There is no guarantee that they will be safe from animal theft even if you lock the car windows. Keep in mind that bears have a strong sense of smell and are physically capable of breaking those glass windows. The best place to store your foods when you leave your vehicle is the trunk.

Third, refrain from being too friendly from them. This means that you should not act goody goody and get close to a bear. The recommended distance is 50 yards to 100 yards away. Closer than this, and you are already potentially at risk.

Do not run away. If you do encounter one at a very close situation, do not ever think of running. Even if your instincts tell you to do so, just do not. You will lose. They run faster than you do and if you run first, they will interpret this as fleeing and will most likely come after you.

Bring bear spray. There are spray that are especially made to repel bears if you spray it on their eyes. While this may be effective, this should only be your last resort. Do not just go out and spray it directly to these animals.

Given the right preparation, the activity will surely be a great one for you and your family. Start planning now to check the necessary things you need for the trip. The more people who will go with you, the bigger the preparation.
