Breaking The Hotel Habit With Alternative Lodging

By Estelle Larsen

Hotels are the automatic way to find lodging while traveling, but sometimes being just another room number to the hotel chain you are paying tons of cash to is just not worth it. Savvy travelers can find cheaper shelter with more charm and adventure if they know where to look for them. If you are not up to the same old experience, then it is time to be a creative traveler and consider other places to hold your feet up and sleep in.

Bed and breakfasts are the next best thing to hotels because they offer more value and cost less. Although they are generally found in rural areas, there are many tourist spots that have them nearby popular hotels, like when you look for Washington Coast lodging, inns and all can be found around the vicinity. With this choice, you can get gourmet food for free along with other amenities. They also have a more personal approach, making the experience unique according to the preference of the guest.

The house hosting mode of traveling has also caught on with the crowd. You can stay in the most unique residences around the globe, provided you are alright with mingling with other people during your vacation. Reading reviews and communicating well with the host of the property is the key to have a wonderful housing rental experience.

If you are on a tight budget on a summer trip, you can opt for academic housing. Most college dorms open their doors to vacationers when students go home for summer break. Skip this when you are not comfortable sharing the shower with other people.

Free housing also exists if that is not so hard to believe. You can find many religious organizations offering affordable, if not free, lodging for those infected with wanderlust. Do not expect a glamorous suite and do expect a curfew. Austere and placid are the words to describe these guesthouses.

Farmhouses also offer free bed and bath if you are keen on trying something new like feeding the ducks or helping in a harvest. Home stays are also available in which a local family shares their home with you for a time being. If you are willing to help out with a few chores and bask yourself in their culture and society, it is totally a worthwhile rent free experience.

House swapping is also a practice for travelers who are okay with exchanging their houses. Most are discouraged because you have to maintain the house while on vacation, but if you want to go full circle, then this could be a learning travel tour for you. For the true adventurer, camping under the stars is one way to go.

Holiday ownership may come with a price, but if you are a frequent traveler who likes to return to the same paradise each year, you can purchase a timeshare resale where prices are more than seventy percent less and you get to own a spacious resort villa for a week or two a year. There are maintenance fees to pay up, but it will cost you less than paying a hotel you frequent to per night. Many timeshare companies also offer bonus weeks where you can get a vacation week for free or with a discounted price.

Travelers come from all walks of life, and travel is their soul food. Like the world they tread, they are only as limited as they choose themselves to be. May it be a villa or a cabin, never let your budget control your walk on the earth. The rewards of adventures are priceless.
